I watched We the Wine People last night, finishing off a bottle of Michigan wine while watching. I liked the history part. It was great seeing many of my favorite Virginia wineries featured, although I sadly realized that I've never had a chance to meet and talk with many of those people. I've met and talked with more winemakers in Oregon than in Virginia, which may be due to Virginia not having an IPNC. (I did get a chance to talk with Lucie Morton at a Governor's Cup, but just not the same.) There were a couple of issues with pacing, but not bad. The way documentaries like this work, they take hours and hours of interviews, and pick the most interesting parts, so some of the more interesting talkers got more airtime. I was struck by how long the segment on "Virginia wineries are unique in being collaborators" was. I'm sure Oregon would beg to differ, with things like the Brooks Winery story. All in all worth watching. I hope people outside of Virginia watch it.
